Lester Gesteland

Known by his students as “Mr. G,” and by some parents as “Mr. Tiger,” Lester earned a B.A. (Honors) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a master's degree from the University of California, San Diego.
Before becoming a tutor and teacher, Lester had been a college-essay scorer, a freelance journalist, a copy editor, a reporter, a foreign correspondent, a news editor, and a book editor.

Lester first taught when he lived in Taiwan and Singapore, immediately after graduating from college. He enjoyed it so much that he took it up again years later, to earn extra money, after he became a father (now living in New Jersey).
This reignited his love of teaching and, seeing a great need for such instruction, he took jobs in after-school programs, at summer camps, and at learning centers. All the while, he was also providing private instruction to students in their homes.

By 2013, Lester had acquired such a large number of private pupils that he felt it was time to open his own learning center, so he launched Tiger Workshops. He taught students at 280 Amboy Avenue in Metuchen until February 2020, when the novel coronavirus epidemic forced him to teach students online.

All Tiger Workshops classes are now offered over the internet.
