2022 Summer Classes

Mr. G will be teaching two types of summer classes this year: a once-a-week class held on Saturdays in June/July, and week-long intensive-writing classes held in June, July & August.

The classes will be for students entering 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades in the fall. (Those currently in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade.)

Mr. G will not be teaching entering 4th graders over the summer (although he will be teaching 4th graders in the fall.)

NEW: How to Write the College Application Essay

In this four-session set of classes, students will read sample college admission essays and learn how to compose, edit and proofread their own. An important part of the course will be learning how to come up with ideas that make an essay stand out. Mr. G, who worked for an educational service that helps college applicants write such essays, will guide students, helping them to craft compositions that are appealing and unique.

Classes will be taught from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays: June 25, July 9, 16 & 23. (Students will have Sat., July 2nd, off.)

COST: $300

A non-refundable $50 deposit (credited toward tuition) is required to secure a spot.

Saturday Classes (June/July)

Over the course of this four-session set of classes, students will read a book, learn vocabulary, and write three compositions: a literary analysis essay, a research simulation task essay, and a narrative.

Intensive Writing Classes

(June/July/August)

Seven sets of intensive-writing classes will be taught over the summer. Some will be four-classes (four days) long, featuring four 1.5-hour sessions, while others will be five-classes (five days) long, featuring five 1.5-hour sessions.

The entire focus of the classes will be on writing only. With the exception of the "Three Compositions" classes, each one-week class will cover one type of writing. (See below for the types covered.)

The "Three Compositions" classes will give students practice in responding to the three types of prompts found on the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments: the narrative, the literary analysis essay, and the research simulation task essay.

In all intensive-writing classes, students will read and study sample compositions and receive detailed feedback from Mr. G. They will also be asked to revise and improve their compositions as necessary.
